Melbourne Festival- Thursday 11th- Saturday 27th October 2012

The city has been dressed in purple to celebrate the imminent arrival of the 2012 Melbourne Festival, which begins this Thursday 11th October.

Following in the footsteps of previous years, the contemporary music program has once again proven to be a Festival highlight, with many shows already sold out including Antony and the Johnsons, Shellac and Billy Bragg, as well as the electro-psych sunset boat cruise odyssey Bermuda Float.

The Festival will play host to some of the world’s most legendary and seminal musicians with a sweep of Australian premieres including one of the true icons of alternative music, Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore. Supporting Thurston will be Kid Sam’s Kieran Ryan, accompanied by delicately layered instrumentation.

Tickets are selling fast to many of the performances, including fellow Sonic Youth bandmate and one of the world’s greatest guitarists Lee Ranaldo, and the blistering double headliner show from Seattle based jazz, funk and soul-inflected hip hop duo THEESatisfaction.

Keeping things flowing between acts will be party-smashers Grouse Party DJs. This electric evening is guaranteed to free minds and bounce behinds.
