Morgan Page Interview
With new album, ‘DC to Light’, American electro DJ, Morgan Page, has returned to our ears. Featuring a number of vocalists including longtime favourite, Lissie, we threw some questions Page’s way to see what was in store for the megastar following its release.
Your recent release of ‘DC to Light’ sees you back on the airwaves, particularly with first single ‘Open Heart’. How did you approach writing and recording the follow-up album to ‘In The Air’?
‘DC to Light’ followed my same work process of doing instrumental drafts and hand picking the best possible vocalists. It took forever, but I’m really proud of the result. I wanted to keep the songs simple but powerful, which is challenging to do… I didn’t want to overproduce the backing tracks. Each song needed to be strong enough to stand on its on, in club or acoustic form.
You’re collaborating again with Lissie, who we obviously remember from ‘The Longest Road’; is this a case of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it?
Lissie is one of my favourite vocalists, and we just have a good chemistry together – her voice is a defining part of my sound. She was previously locked into a major label contract that prevented us from working together, but now she’s free.
I see fans have already been commenting on their favourite song. Do you have one?
‘Open Heart’ is my favourite.
Has the material on the album been a part of your current set?
Lately I’ve been playing ‘No Ordinary Life’, ‘Running Wild’, ‘Against The World’, ‘We Receive You’, ‘Think of You’, and ‘Open Heart’ from the new record.
You’ve got shows scheduled in North America over the coming months, are there any plans to head overseas?
North America is the best place in the world to play, but I’m excited to get back to playing China, India, Australia and Indonesia again. Possibly near the end of 2015 or early 2016…
Do you have a favourite venue you’d like to return to?
Red Rocks and also The Gorge.
Do you travel much outside of touring? Where was your last holiday?
My last vacation was French Polynesia, staying on Marlon Brando’s family island – it’s amazing!
What are your passions besides music?
I love photography, interior design (anything Eames), and technology.
