Moving To Victoria

Follow us on Google News

Once you’ve decided that Australia will be your new home, the next step is to decide where exactly you’d like to live. Many of you will be moving to wherever your career takes you, but some will have freer rein, and with that in mind, may we turn your attentions to Victoria?

Victoria’s capital is Melbourne, one of the most liveable cities in the world and home to 70% of Victoria’s inhabitants. And if you will allow us a few more interesting stats, it is said that 30% of Melbourne residents speak a language other than English, proving its worth as a rapidly growing, ethnically-diverse city in which to live.

Local areas include Brimbank, Melbourne’s second largest municipality and home to 96 nationalities, and Greater Dandenong which apart from having the best name in Victoria, is also home to a strong industrial hub with nearly 8000 independent businesses thriving in the area.

But of course, Victoria isn’t limited to the successes of Melbourne. The north west region of Victoria is famous throughout Australia for its agricultural background with dairy, cattle and sheep farms, wine production and fruit and vegetable processing. Many of the north west’s communities were built on the fortunes made from gold mines, and this is evident in places such as Maryborough who promote their (literally) rich history today.

Then there’s the south east region of Victoria which has dependable rainfall and therefore a healthy line in agriculture, horticulture and fishing. It’s a lush-looking place with more rolling green hills and thick sumptuous woods than one would be used to elsewhere in Oz. In fact it’s got a touch of the English countryside about it – only on a much more epic scale (but then that’s Australia for you). For a truly extravagant experience, we recommend a visit to Drouin with its refined gourmet cuisine and wine production set against heavenly landscapes of assorted greens. Of course, if you’re watching the budget after a fairly expensive relocation Down Under, you’d be wiser looking elsewhere.

If you’re a skilled worker, Victoria’s west region would be a much more lucrative prospect because it could mean your eligibility for a Skilled Migration visa, as issued by the Victorian Government. Ballarat is also worth noting in this region because of its high standards of education, exemplified by the outstanding University of Ballarat.

There are many more areas of Victoria we haven’t touched upon here but we hope this has given you a flavour of the opportunities and diverse communities you’ll be experiencing were you to spend a wee while exploring this little corner of the country. And should you need any assistance getting there, Seven Seas Worldwide are always on hand with a top-class collection and delivery service, sending excess baggage and personal belongings to and from Victoria, all day, every day.
