Discover Mulga’s Adventures The Rock Tour Review!
If you want to explore the Outback of Australia, including visits to Uluru, Kings Canyon and more, you’ll be in incredibly safe hands if you decide to go with Mulga’s Adventures. To help you with your Northern Territory travel ideas, former passenger, Ally Potter, explains why she chose Mulga’s Adventures to take her to Uluru, Kings Canyon, Kata Tjuta, and the epic Outback sunset.
Goodbye London
I decided to leave my city job in London last year and embark on a round the world trip. So far I’ve taken in the street food and temples of South East Asia, the Outback and hipster cafes of Australia and the majestic mountains of New Zealand. Best decision I’ve ever made for so many reasons: constant good times, great memories and meeting amazing people. I’ve also blogged the whole way round which has fed my insatiable appetite for writing.
Why Australia?
I’ve been to Australia twice before, and having done the East Coast and Sydney, I wanted to explore the other side of Oz in the shape of cities like Melbourne, Adelaide and, of course, the Outback. I wanted to go beyond the beautiful beaches and Great Barrier Reef. I feel like I’ve now done so much more of what this great country can offer. I love that Australia has so many different environments; a few hours on a flight can take you from a desert to a metropolitan city.
Choosing Mulga’s Adventures
I was recommended Mulga’s by somebody I met on a beach in Malaysia so I’d made a note to look them up when I got to Oz. They were also number one on Trip Advisor when I was booking my trip, so that firmed up my decision.
The Tour
I went on The Rock tour, which was a three-day, two-night tour.
The Highlights
The highlights for me, quite unexpectedly, were Kings Canyon and Kata Tjuta. Uluru is an incredible, spectacular and world-famous symbol of the Red Centre, but for me it was the other desert landscapes that blew me away! Kings Canyon is a vast series of gobsmacking landforms and Kata Tjuta is beautiful at sunset. I absolutely loved learning from our tour guide Chris, so coming away sharing his passion for the landscape was a nice bonus. The people I travelled with were fantastic and I loved getting to know people from all over the world in a short, intense trip.
The Outback
It met my expectations as I’d done a bit of Googling and spoken to a few people about it. I’d also watched Priscilla Queen of the Desert just before which was essential research, of course.
Safety In The Outback
There wasn’t a briefing per se, but I definitely felt like Chris was totally capable and experienced. He was really clear on the importance of staying hydrated in the sun and keeping safe. He was also very respectful of the Aboriginal restrictions around Uluru in terms of where to stand, where to take photos etc. So really, we just followed Chris’ lead and all worked out OK. In terms of the dingoes, I didn’t even hear them (I was snoozing like a baby) but the bus was always open if you wanted to sleep in there overnight. There was really no need, though.
The Passengers
I met some lovely people, all of whom I would welcome to visit me in London. We had an easy, fun and light-hearted time together. I enjoyed meeting a range of people, though there were lots of girls as can be expected on these group trips! There were about 10 of us, and it felt like it was just right. Enough people to get a good conversation going but not so many that there’s a queue to the shower!
Chris, The Tour Guide
He was really passionate about the environment, which rubbed off on everyone. He worked so hard, and really clearly wanted us to have a great time. I can’t rate him highly enough.
After Mulga’s
I flew straight to Auckland from Alice Springs and started my trip around stunning New Zealand, very different from the Outback!
