Musicjelly, Revolutionising The Way We Make Music
A revolutionary music making tool is here… welcome to Musicjelly…
Sampling has been around since the 1980s, and has played a major role in music ever since. From sampling a vocal from an old track and remastering it into something new, or taking the intro from a classical piece of music and turning into a house music track, it’s become the very essence of modern music, and now… it couldn’t be more accessible a tool to the producers amongst you.
Musicjelly has created a visual compositional tool that lets you make music using video clips of real performing artists, from vocalists, drummers, guitarists, beatboxers, bassists, saxophones, keys and any other instrument you can think of. The videos playback together in time and users can select from an ever-growing library of clips to create their own audio visual mixes, and compositions, blurring the line between artist and audience.
Developed over three years, Musicjelly was recently commissioned by London’s inTRANSIT summer Festival of Arts where they recorded over 100 musicians to add to its library.
Some highlights on the platform include Aaron Horn playing percussion in Bob Marley’s old bath tub, Smiley from Smiley & The Underclass playing melodica on the stairs of Studio 1, DJ Harry Love scratching in his production room, Bumi Thomas at the Cadogan Hall, Niles “Asheber” Hailstones from Asheber & The African Revolution playing a horn under a brutalist Trellick tower, Dingus Khan going crazy at Mode in Portobello, beatboxer Beatfox in Portobello Market, Susheela Raman with her radical vocals, rappers and drummers of the RU1FAM collective, Play it again Kat! with the support of Vince Powers at the KPH, Ray Carless playing sax at the Flyover and many others.
These audio video loops are now available to use at musicjelly.com, so what are you waiting for… go ahead and give it a try.
