Natalie Abbott – Physical Fractals – PACT
Hypnotic movement, whirring microphones, blinking lights, intimate encounters, Physical Fractals is an up-close, sensory experience – a dance work that consumes space and bends time. Presented at PACT from 1 – 10 May, two performers fall and rise, weaving repetitive movements within a circle of witnesses, building tension with changes in sight and sound.
Created by independent dance maker Natalie Abbott and first presented at Next Wave Festival 2012, Physical Fractals is a brave, uncompromising dance work.
Choreographer and performer Natalie Abbott, a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts school of dance, creates engaging, challenging and thought-provoking work – previous works include Pastel Playground (2007), Parade (2008), Paradise Pop-up (2009), Ultimate Pressure – a video and sensory immersion work (Next Wave Festival 2010) and Circles for Squares (Lucy Guerin’s Pieces for Small Spaces 2011). Natalie was also invited to perform on-stage with Canadian pop chanteuse, Grimes on her recent sold-out Australian tour.
Performer Rebecca Jensen, raised in New Zealand and a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts school of dance, is a performer, choreographer and costume designer – previous performances include Within an Inner (Lucy Guerin’s Pieces for Small Spaces 2011), Future Perfect (2001) and Document (2001).
