Nic Fanciulli Interview

Follow us on Google News

Nic Fanciulli’s work ethic is something else. In the two decades he’s been DJing, he’s toured the world countless times, in the most party-hard cities and venues, to the most dedicated audiences you can find, but this year, he embarks on his biggest challenge yet. Nic Fanciulli is touring once again, visiting eight different countries in just 10 days. With his Around The World Tour fast approaching in April, we had to find out more, so we caught up with the incredible DJ to chat about the cities he chose, his love of travel and when you can get your hands on tickets!

Hi Nic, how are you?
Good!

There’s such a buzz around your Around The World Tour. Only very few artists would attempt such a challenge, so what inspired you to do a world tour in just 10 days?
To see if we could! I think travel is so important generally throughout life, and I’m lucky enough to have seen a huge amount of the world, in part due to the ease of travel these days; it’s really made the world a much smaller place. I also wanted to create a shared experience for fans on the actual tour stops as well as at home through different marketing and media partnerships – we’ve got some really exciting things planned for the tour, that will be announced in the coming weeks.

And why did you choose the cities you did?
It’s a mixture between practicality, and my own personal interest. Every city on the tour has something unique to offer, and a special story behind it, but we also wanted to actually travel around the world (London-London), which means there were certain time zone stipulations. For example, we had to leave a gap between the San Francisco and Manila shows as it’s just impossible to travel there and play the next day, so the tour ended up being slightly longer – but we’re in a new country every single day, so I’m really excited!

Your UK show will be in Manchester; while the venue is yet to be announced, what’s been your criteria for venues?
We wanted to keep the venues quite intimate – the tour is all about creating a sense of a shared community throughout the world, so the intimate setting just felt right. The promoters were also really important to us, as the majority of them are old friends, so there’s a real family vibe with the planning of it.

Your fans are so excited that you’ve chosen to play in their city; can you divulge what they can expect from the shows?
All of the shows are going to be intimate, but with a really unique aesthetic.

When will they be able to guarantee tickets?
Tickets will all be on sale from next week.

You’ve put your faith in Ultra Worldwide and Resistance to present your tour and you’ve become a staple at the Ultra events; why does the festival brand suit you so much?
The Ultra guys are fantastic; they just want to create exciting things with good music of any electronic genre, which suits me perfectly. I’m so happy to have them on board as our partner for the tour, and it gives you an indication of what they have planned for Resistance moving forward!

With your history with Ultra and Ibiza residencies, you’ve played around the world; do you have a favourite location or venue?
South America at the moment is amazing for me – I always have a great time there. I just came back from an eight-date tour of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay which was amazing. Tokyo has always been a favourite of mine also – I’ll never forget New Year’s Eve there in 2007. Also there’s no feeling quite like landing in Ibiza – it just feels like home.

Obviously you won’t have time to enjoy the cities you’re visiting besides the shows themselves; when you do have spare time in a location, what do you like to get up to?
Yeah, this is going to be much more in-and-out, but normally I like spending time checking out new music, catching up with friends, and, when I’m back from tour, spending time with my son, Luca. I also have a festival (The Social Festival), and a record label (Saved Records) to run, so that takes some time!

Do you suffer with jet lag? How will you cope with the time differences?
Normally I’m not too bad with jetlag, but I’ve never done a trip like this before so we’ll see what happens! Lots of water and vitamins are important – eating good food is a must as well.

What are your plans after the tour? Did you choose the UK to finish so you can go home and sleep for a week?
I’ll probably take some time to relax at home, but I’m back on the road the weekend after, so there really is no rest! I don’t mind though; I love DJing and wouldn’t change anything for the world.
