Nick de la Hoyde chats Mirror Mirror, Barcelona and gives us some tips on Sydney eats
Nick de la Hoyde is an independent artist and recently performed at Rolling Loud festival and upon his return released his highly emotive track Mirror Mirror. When Nick finished writing Mirror Mirror he reached out to his friends and fans to share their personal stories, fears and phobias. Nick received an overwhelming response from adults and children detailing their struggles. The result of this initiative was a powerful video, reflecting the message behind Mirror Mirror.
The music video already has 48,000 views, the song has been streamed 210,000 times, Nick has an impressive 100K monthly listeners on Spotify.
With over 425,000 followers on Instagram, Nick is a powerful voice for his generation and has collaborated with Australian Suicide Prevention Charity R U OK? who named him ‘a conversation hero’. “R U OK? Ambassador Nick de la Hoyde’s single, ‘Mirror, Mirror’ reminds us all that regardless of where we are in life, we all have insecurities about ourselves. When we share these insecurities and allow ourselves to vulnerable with each other, we can start meaningful conversations, that could change a life,” said CEO RUOK? Brendan Maher. We caught up with the inspirational Singer/Rapper to talk music, influences and gives us some tips on Sydney eats.
What’s your name and what do you?
My Name is Nick de la Hoyde & i am a Singer/Rapper from Sydney Australia
What kind of music do you play? What best describes your sound?
I would say the genre of my music would be between Electronic Pop and Hip/Hop which we like to call Future Pop.
What would you say is your biggest influence?
My biggest influence would be everyday life. Everything that happens around me each day. sometimes it’s not a great deal haha but there is always something going on.
Where’s the best club you’ve ever played? And the best festival?
The best club I have played at would be Marque Sydney. I had the opportunity to support Kid Ink on his Australian Club tour which was an absolute blast. The best festival would be Rolling Loud in Miami, the atmosphere was incredible and I had the opportunity to share the stage with artists i love.
Where’s the most unique festival you’ve been to and what was so special? What was the most difficult festival you ever went to and was it worth it?
I have not been to too many festivals so i can’t really answer these haha. But so far it would be rolling loud as the Highlight for me.
Where’s your hometown?
My home town is lovely Sydney Australia
What’s your favourite local bar/restaurant/bar/club?
My fav restaurant would have to be Spice Temple in Sydney. The food is incredible, and it has such a mood about the place.
Where’s your favourite clubbing destination?
My fav clubbing destination would have to be Opium which is located in Barcelona Spain. this place is so much fun and right on the beach!
Is there something you can’t travel without?
I don’t think i would be able to travel without music.. I think music is essential for traveling haha
What travel destination would you recommend our readers add to their bucket list?
Barcelona without a doubt is the place i would recommend people to go. I fell involve with Barcelona the moment i got there.
Where was the most surprising place you discovered a big music influence?
An amazing place to see artists are the clubs on the beach in Barcelona Spain. Every week there would be a big DJ playing at one of the venues, I think most of them had residencies at the clubs. So if you are ever in Barcelona make sure to check out the nightlife in Port Olympic.
