Kakadu Wild Expeditions has the perfect solution. Here is their one of many Northern Territory Travel ideas.
Running over five days and four nights, their Top End Explorer tour starts and concludes in Darwin. On the tour, you’ll learn about fascinating Aboriginal culture, visit Gunlom Falls as well as the breathtaking Jim Jim Falls in Kakadu National Park. Campers can also walk around Litchfield National Park and take in the beautiful scenery of Katherine Gorge. There’s also the chance to go croc spotting on a boat trip and spend a night under the stars in one of Kakadu Wild’s private campsites.
Learn how to play the didgeridoo and how to throw spears!
Day 1 of this adventure takes campers into Wulna Country where you’ll meet the Limilngan-Wulna people. Here you’ll learn about Aboriginal culture, learn how to play the didgeridoo, weave baskets and even do a bit of spear throwing. The tour moves on to the Mary River, which has the highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the Southern hemisphere. Arriving into Ubirr just in time to watch the stunning sunset, campers can also look at Aboriginal rock art that is over 20,000 years old!
Day 2 sees an early start for a busy day. With some 4WD action on the way, the adventure moves on to Twin Falls. Located in Kakadu National Park, take a breather on the sandy banks before heading out to Jim Jim Falls. Embrace the challenge of walking to the base of the falls, where you can cool off in the water. A location not to be rushed, spend the afternoon enjoying the spectacular scenery then take a short drive in the evening to stay overnight in a bush camp.
Maguk is your next destination on day 3, where you can take a dip in the plunge pools, hike to the top of Gunlom Falls and cool down in a refreshing waterhole. Visit Pine Creek and learn about its rich history of gold-mining before heading south to Kakadu Wild’s private campsite next to the Nitmuluk National Park.
Take a refreshing dip in the stunning Edith Falls…
Spend the morning of day 4 in awe of your surroundings then take a cruise or rent a canoe and paddle downstream (these options are seasonal and at your own expense). Moving on to Edith Falls, cool down with yet another refreshing swim!
Day 5 takes campers to Litchfield National Park, the perfect place to explore the tropics. Visiting Florence and Wangi Falls brings the trip to an end before it’s time to hit the road and head back to Darwin.
Prices start from $1,295, which includes food and camping equipment. This trip is recommended for people with moderate to advanced fitness and groups are made up of 4-16 campers.
