
Ones To Watch At City Sound Project 2016
Since it’s beginning in 2012, City Sound Project, based in Canterbury, Kent, has continued to grow bigger than anyone could of expected. The idea is simple. 300 people who appreciate good music. 16 unique and boutique stages inside spaces such as the medieval Westgate Tower and a 12th Century Franciscan Chapel. With one of this summer’s most diverse line-ups here is our five to watch!
Mystery Jets
Having just released their fifth album ‘Curve The Earth’, which was recorded in a disused button factory, the West London quartet have rediscovered their mojo and are sure to put on quite the show! Having been together for the best part of two decades now the Jets have a fabulous back catalogue to pick from! With classics like ‘Two Doors Down’ and ‘Young Love’ still going down a treat on their most recent tour, their new material has been slipped into their sets effortlessly. These guys are must see this year, make sure to listen out for their new track ‘Telomere’ which is sure to go down a treat with fans of old and new.
Mike Skinner (DJ SET)
The mastermind behind The Streets has built up quite a reputation as a more than capable DJ in the past few years. His sets stir a mixture The Streets classics, with Garage, House, Techno and DnB. If this isn’t enough to sway you to go see Mike, his onstage presence and outstanding energy really lifts whoevers nearby. The Birmingham music fanatic always produces sets with a little something for everyone so be sure to have your Kronenbourg can and lighters held up high in homage to one of Britain’s most eccentric DJ’s.
Big Narstie
Narstie is one of South London’s biggest cult heroes at the moment! His rise to fame through his Youtube channel ‘Base Defence League’ has helped propel his music. Having played Outlook Festival in Croatia for the past three years Narstie has plenty of experience wooing festival crowds with his mix of UK rap and heavy base. His hit ‘When The Bassline Drops’ never fails to make a crowd descend into complete disarray. So if you’re looking to completely let loose, which lets face it everyone at a festival is, this is the man to go to see.
Redlight
Self taught Redlight has been DJing since he was just a teen in Bristol. Now a DJ and artist in his own right his musical interests include reggae and hip-hop. These are evident in his sets as he mixes these influences with house, garage and techno to create a set like you’ve never heard before. Having previously worked with artists including Mary J Blige and rapper Raekwon he boasts a very high brow CV. Currently putting the finishing touches on his debut album project ‘X-Colour’ this man will surely have plenty of new material to grace the Canterbury crowd.
Jacob Banks
Back in 2012 Jacob Banks won the MOBO Awards’ UnSung regional competition in his hometown of Birmingham, since then he hasn’t looked back! He was the first unsigned artist to appear on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge back in 2013, he also leant vocals to projects with Wretch 32 and Chase & Status, who he later toured Australia with. The singer/songwriter talents are now cemented in the minds of the British public with his second EP ‘The Paradox’ showcasing his powerful vocals for all to see. Jacob is a must see at this years City Sound Project. The minute you hear that voice you will understand what all the fuss is about.
