Ones To Watch At The Gum Ball 2016
The Gum Ball is returning to the New South Wales bushland from 22nd-24th April 2016 with an eclectic mix of Australian artists and bands. There are still more names to be announced, but these are the artists we’re looking forward to seeing already.
Dan Sultan
A powerhouse performer that needs no introduction, Dan Sultan has a voice that’s both sweet and rough to turn on any crowd. He can pull off acoustic ballads and big-band soul rock, making him perfect for a festival like Gum Ball. With support from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, this songwriter is going places and the only way is up.
Jeff Lang
Based in Australia, Jeff Lang has become renowned for being a virtuosic guitarist, dynamic songwriter and unique live performer. With a total of 15 albums to his name, he’s been the one to watch at clubs, art centres and festivals for 10 years, blending rock, folk, blues and improvisation into one memorable set.
Caitlin Park
Mixing folk, electronics and neo-soul, Caitlin Park’s abstract composition and sampling makes her one of the most innovative songwriters in Australia. Since releasing her 2011 debut album, ‘Milk Annual’, her career has gone to new heights, winning the award for Qantas Spirit of The Youth Award and sharing the stage with First Aid Kit, James Vincent McMorrow and Courtney Barnett.
Citizen Kay
Championing hip-hop Down Under is Citizen Kay, a self-taught rapper who learnt the art of making beats and recording to tour with artists such as Wiz Khalifa and Ice Cube. Standout singles include ‘Raise A Glass’, ‘Freedom’ and ‘If Life Gives You Lemons’, while his debut mini-album ‘DEMOKRACY’ was nothing short of genius.
Bullhorn
Crazy, brass-based and MC-led nine-piece, Bullhorn, are party animals dressed in suits. Prepare to be whipped into a frenzy ad you watch their virtuosic musicianship, crazy arrangements, catchy grooves and upbeat rhythms. Whether creating original tunes or putting their stamp on the likes of Bonobo and Easy Star All Stars, they will show you a good time.
