Outback Adventure From Adelaide To Alice Springs
You haven’t seen the real Australia until you’ve travelled through the outback – a breathtaking landscape of canyons, valleys, mountain ranges and record-breaking statistics that humble the most experienced of us. Forget the plane ticket and tick off this once-in-a-lifetime experience instead with the 7-Day Adelaide to Alice Springs Explorer.
Go back to basics, live out of your rucksack and become a little too familiar with fellow travellers as you make your way through some of the most untouched and unspoilt areas of Australia on this group tour. Beginning in the early hours of the morning in the South Australian capital of Adelaide, the hills, vineyards and idyllic country towns of the Clare Valley welcome you for lunch, before you enter the Flinders Ranges and hike around the enormous natural amphitheatre of Wilpena Pound.
After a night camping in the Flinders Ranges, it’s time to head further north for the outback town of William Creek, but not before passing through the old Ghan railway route, along the Oodnadatta track and past the great sight of Lake Eyre, Australia’s largest salt lake. After a night at William Creek – including a visit to the famous pub – you journey onwards on day three through the red dunes, salt pans and gibber plains of the desert. After passing the traditional Aussie cattle station of Anna Creek – the largest in the world at 24,000 square kilometres – you get a break at Lake Cadibarrawirracanna, before continuing on to the underground opal capital of Coober Pedy. Try your hand at fossicking for opal before settling down for the night in an underground bunkhouse.
Onto day four, you get the chance to meet some local wildlife in the way of rescued joeys at Josephine’s Gallery and Kangaroo Orphanage, before leaving Coober Pedy across Moon Plain. Travelling past Dingo Fence – the longest fence in the world – you get to capture spectacular views of the Breakaways Scenic Reserve, before arriving at Erlduna, one of the most central points in Australia and your opportunity to swim and relax before bedtime under the stars.
Now in the heart of the Red Centre, you finally get to meet the icons of the outback, with lunch at Uluru no less. After refuelling, you get to explore the ancient rocks of Kata Tjuta with a hike through the outstanding Valley of the Winds. Tonight is your chance to see the Uluru sunset, before waking the next morning for the Uluru sunrise.
Get closer to Uluru with a walk around its huge base, and grow your understanding of its cultural importance with stories from an Aboriginal guide. Browse the selection of arts and crafts at the Cultural Centre before camping within the home of Kings Canyon, Wattarka National Park.
With your outback adventure coming to an end, put your walking shoes to good use as you explore Kings Canyon, the Amphitheatre, Lost City and Garden of Eden. After a final meal, you reach Alice Springs, the most famous outback town in Australia, and your final destination.
This 7-Day Adelaide to Alice Springs Explorer offers you the greatest insight into outback Australia from just $995pp, and includes an experienced guide, meals, accommodation and minibus transport.
