Parklife Festival 2016: One’s To Watch

Follow us on Google News

We are psyched at the fact Parklife festival is only a few months away, bringing an array of huge talent: global and local! With so many artists to be excited for, we’ve narrowed it down to just 5 top picks. Take a sneaky look…

Skepta

On the back of a year where Skepta has changed the face of UK music, the self-proclaimed King of Grime will be unleashing one of his trademark high tempo, no nonsense sets to an adoring Manchester crowd. Having recently signed Drake to his label Boy Better Know and winning a spot in GQ’s best dressed men of the year Skepta is one of the UK’s biggest names, single handedly propelling the grime scene to new heights. The North London prodigy has just released ‘Ladies Hit Squad’ featuring D Double and ASAP Nast and this is a song that will surely get the crowd going come June.

Wolf Alice

Another product fresh of the North London assembly line, Wolf Alice have had a year like no other indie band in the UK. Nominated for Best Rock Performance at this years Grammy awards and Best Breakthrough Band at the Brit Awards, this four piece are looking to take the country by storm. The success of their second studio album ‘My Love is Cool’ gives you reason enough to go see these guys. Be sure to keep an ear out for ‘Moaning Lisa Smile’, a song the band have mastered unbelievably well live.

Jack Garratt

Winner of the Critics Choice category at the Brit Awards, BBC Sound Poll of 2016 and recently added to MTV’s brand new 2016 shortlist, Garratt is quickly becoming a household name across Britain. He released his debut album ‘Phase’ in February, and the boy from Buckinghamshire has already headlined the Reading and Leeds BBC Introducing stage. This one man band will be sure to blow your mind live, playing a host of different instruments, sometimes at the same time!

Jamie XX

After insane levels of success with his second studio album ‘In Colour’, that was released in 2015, the beat maker and knob shaker from the XX recently sold out headline shows at the famous Alexandra Palace arena. With extreme visuals and his unique sound booming through perfectly at Alexandra Palace, one can only imagine what he’s got lined up for his Festival sets this summer! ‘All Over One Roof’ is the song to catch from this dance music genius.

Blossoms

Stockport indie rockers Blossoms received a Christmas number one in the Vinyl Charts for their debut EP ‘At Most a Kiss’. These boys are tipped for big things this year, finishing fourth on the BBC’s Sound Poll 2016. Being local lads they will no doubt have the crowd on their side as they perform tracks like ‘Charlemagne’. I’m sure these boys understand the privilege of playing at Heaton Park and will put their blood sweat and tears into the performance.
