Wander Through The Incan World
Free & Easy’s 20-day Wander Through The Incan World tour of Peru begins in the bustling capital of Lima – one of the gastronomical capitals of the world and a fantastic city to begin your trip and get a real feel for Peruvian culture. Explore Peru’s world-famous markets that sell an abundance of wonderful Andean garments, fresh foods and classic Peruvian drinks such as horchata and pisco! First things first in Peru – try a searingly fresh ceviche dish packed full of the flavours of zingy lime, red onion and cured fish.
After getting to know your Free & Easy buddies in the buzzing metropolis of Lima, the tour heads south to the incredible oasis town of Huacachina. The journey winds through Peruvian deserts until you reach this town nestled amongst the sand dunes and situated on the banks of a dreamy desert lagoon. The next day kicks off early with a spot of thrilling dune buggying before having a go at riding the dunes on a sandboard! This is a particularly exhilarating excursion that is made all the more special amongst this breath-taking desert setting. After a night under the stars at Free and Easy’s very own camp, and a traditional Peruvian BBQ, the tour continues south to the beautiful town of Arequipa.
Arequipa is an ancient Peruvian town dramatically situated amongst impressive volcano peaks. Explore the town’s rich colonial heritage and discover the intricate architecture before heading away from the city to the Colca Canyon. This river canyon is the world’s deepest and has been carved by centuries of water erosion, making for incredible scenery and above all – an amazing two days of trekking. This hike is a challenging mission given the terrain, the dramatic downhill descent into the heart of the canyon and, of course, the altitude. However, the hike is certainly worth it. You will spend two whole days surrounded by beautiful landscapes speckled with colourful flowers and alpine scenery as well occasionally spotting the unique wildlife. Be wowed by the impressive wingspan of the condor or the quintessential Peruvian animal – the llama. After a spectacularly rewarding two-day hike, head to the local baths to sooth any aching limbs and get some rest before you hit Cusco!
This next stop is the beating heart of Peru and is the country’s de facto capital. With its incredible nightlife, picturesque colonial buildings and breath-taking setting in the rolling hills of the Sacred Valley, Cusco will be one of your highlights on your journey throughout Peru. Of course, the city is also the base camp for backpackers and holidaymakers with Machu Picchu next on their agenda.
Visiting Machu Pichu
No trip to Peru is complete without a visit to the incredible national heritage site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World – Machu Picchu. You will journey by train through the jaw-dropping landscape, where you will learn in depth about the ancient culture of the pre-Columbian empire, whilst taking in the landscape. Nothing can prepare you for the vast scenery and the clear devotion of this age-old civilisation, consecrated in this city in the sky. This is the perfect place to round off your 20-day trip and the ideal spot to reflect on Peru’s incredible historical heritage, its natural beauty and your time in Peru before heading back to Cusco for a few days before departing for Lima, and then home.
