Pier Jam Review – DJ EZ Takes Blackpool By Storm

Pier Jam has had a sensational summer offering up fresh sets in great locations on various piers around the UK. The weather has often been kind and sun has added extra fun to each even, but now that autumn is arriving it all comes to end on Blackpool Pier with one of the finest garage and grime DJs in the game.

This fourth and final instalment kicked off at 2pm. People soon pile in and are a mix of girls and boys of all ages, some look like first timers and some are clearly harden ravers but they all get along fine and often come together under explosions of confetti as they get their iPhones out to film the big moments.

Happily the sun made an appearance and baked us all in warm rays as we got down to a fresh mix of contemporary dance sounds. The speakers were spot on and the production was special and really added to the occasion. When 5pm came round the Main Room was buzzing with excitement for when Low Steppa stepped up. He went deep and tough with his bass driven tracks, house anthems and garage classics all sounding super well swung getting us going.

After him came the man who has been playing as tour DJ for Mercury Music prize winner Skepta, namely Preditah. He got a big reaction and served up a suitably big selection of tunes that mixed the old and the new, the known and the unknown. Serious bass came heavy and fat and really proved that a good sound system as in place.

A second area also bounced to some big beats from TQD which is a collective made up of Royal T, DJ Q and Flava D. They all impressed with technical skills but also fine selections and across all four decks proved one of the most energetic outfits of the day. Closing things out was the legendary DJ EZ who has still got it all these years after first emerging and he shut down Pier Jam in real style and set everyone home happy.
