Rainbow Beach, Queensland

Found in the Cooloola region in a south east corner of Queensland just less than three hours north of Brisbane, Rainbow Beach is not only stunning, but also ideally located as a leap pad to the adventurous Fraser Island. Despite this, you can often find yourself alone on the cliff edge to enjoy panoramic views and unspoilt wilderness.

You can get to Rainbow Beach easily from Brisbane on main roads, but, if you want to truly explore once you get here, hire a 4WD and head along the beaches or deep within the nearby national parks. There’s more adrenalin to be found up in the skies, with skydiving, paragliding and hang gliding all available in this far-spread area.

Due to its location, Rainbow Beach has many special spots, perfect for different activities. If you’re a surfer, Double Island Point has some of the best breaks in north Queensland, and scuba divers will relish Wolf Rock. Four volcanic pinnacles, there are many parts to explore and sealife to meet, from the endangered grey nurse shark to wobbegong, manta rays and dolphins.

Due to its holiday appeal, there are plenty of options for accommodation including resorts with self-contained luxury apartments, holiday parks with camping facilities, and beach houses for uninterrupted views of the beach. You’re also spoilt for choice for eating out, with an array of al fresco restaurants, waterfront cafes and wine bars to suit all tastes at all times of the day.
