Rebekah Will Bring The Techno
The current reigning queen of hard techno, the UK’s Rebekah, will tour Australia for the first time since her debut visit 2 years ago.
It’s been 20 years since the Brummie girl first picked up her headphones, and since then she has established herself as a major techno player. Cutting her teeth at Birmingham’s infamous Que club, Rebekah took inspiration in those early days from major techno mainstays like Dave Clarke, Richie Hawtin and Billy Nasty (for minute there she did venture to the housier side of the spectrum, but the allure of techno proved too strong). And it shows: you can always expect a Rebekah set to be relentless and hard-as-nails.
In the studio she has excelled too, having made early inroads with EP’s on Naked Lunch, Smut Music, and Cult Figures. But it was perhaps her remix of Matador’s ‘Blond Slackers‘ on Stolen Moments that really took her to a wider audience. A chance meeting with Chris Liebing lead to major support form the German’s CLR camp, including welcoming her to the CLR production stable. She also recently released a new EP called ‘Anxiety’ on the Some Records, the home of Scotland’s most popular techno duo, Slam.
It will all kick off on Friday the 23rd of September when Rebekah will be hosted by the stranger crew for a serious night of techno at Railway Hotel in Melbourne, after which she will play at Sydney’s The Burdekin Hotel on Saturday the 24th.
