Review: Together's Closing Party at Amnesia
After fourteen weeks of some of the biggest parties on the White Isle, including unbelievable performances from the very best electronic artists, it was time for Together to round off their season at Amnesia with an unrivaled closing party on Tuesday 18th September.
Together, a party that’s become a must-visit for lovers of bass-heavy music, and Chase & Status rounded off an eighth consecutive season in a duly manner. The Drum & Bass duo, who also celebrate fifteen years in the game, has welcomed many of the world’s finest exports from the genre this year, including Andy C, DJ EZ and more bass-focused names such Hannah Wants, Redlight and My Nu Leng. The closing party is always a big occasion for those involved, no matter what the party is, but when it comes to Together, they truly do go the extra mile with the production on the night being second-to-none; think aptly-timed gas canons, beaming laser lights and confetti-induced euphoria… And this is all before we even get into the music!
Chase & Status delivered a deluge of old-school classics in the Club Room that were superbly mixed in with some newer, fresher beats. The most notable moment from their set was the boys dropping the emotionally charge ‘Alive’, featuring the vocals of Alex Banks; a moment nobody in the crowd will be forgetting for a long time. Elsewhere in the Club Room was Sigma who brought his usual dynamism to the stage and very special guest, Wilkinson, who brought joy to the venue with his assiduity to keeping the crowd on their toes throughout his set. Despite mentioning them last in our review of the Club Room, the boys who kicked off the night, My Nu Leng, were one of the best performers on the night; upping the tempo from the word go and set the tone for a raucously decent night of bass-led vibes.
Over on the Terrace, garage artist and all-round veteran DJ EZ was on hand to present another showing of unthinkable talent behind the decks. His unpredictable style vocal-chops, rewinds and mashups of well known old school jams and funky hits gave joy to those in attendance. Defected Record’s regular, Sonny Fodera, played a special b2b alongside Gorgon City, a duo that have been smashing their international appearances of late. Fodera brought the deeper and heavy undertones whilst Gorgon City maintained an element of sweetness to the vibe.
Our final shout is out to the other special guest on the lineup, MK. An artist admired by many, he’s been providing the underground and chart-topping vibe for decades; tonight wasn’t any different and the highlight from his set was undoubtedly the moment he dropped Kolsh and Tiga’s ‘Hal’, what a joyous time of the evening that was. In summary, this was a spectacular closing for Together, setting the benchmark as high as it has ever been for the past few years. A diversity in its’ lineups that has seen the very best of Grime, Drum & Bass, House and more, coming together for another astonishing season – roll on next summer in Ibiza!
