Rich Mix is a cultural charity that brings the best in cinema, performing arts and music to East London. Celebrating the vibrant local area, Rich Mix prides itself on showcasing global talent and tailoring its music, spoken word, comedy and cinematic programming to reflect the values and interests of the East End’s community.

Rich Mix kicks off a month of spoken word, poetry and comedy with Dash Café on Wednesday 4 April presents a conversation around Art and Conflict – the Case of Syria, and aspiring singers, rappers, dancers, comedians and spoken word artists take to the stage for Allsortz on Monday 9 April to show us what they’ve got!

London Liming brings the Caribbean liming culture to London with spoken word, DJ sets and a carnival atmosphere on Thu 12 April and a week later, on Thursday 19 April, we host Sony Award winning and Writers Guild Award winning Radio 4 comedy show Mark Steel’s In Town.

They’ll be loads more comedy to bring the month to a riotous close as Knock2Bag brings award-winning laughs to our main space on Friday 27 April featuring Nick Helm, David Trent, William Andrews, Will Adamsdale, Lucy Montgomery and Ed Gamble.

What: DASH CAFÉ – Art and Conflict – the Case of Syria

Dash Café Arabic Series presents a conversation around “Art and Conflict – the Case of Syria” with live music from the dash cafe house band. In association with Literature Across Frontiers and Firefly International.

Price: Free

An evening packed with energy and talent. Showcasing the very best the capital has to offer in up-and-coming performers. Are you a singer, rapper, dancer, comedian, or spoken word artist looking to take that next step and perform in front of a live audience? If so then Allsortz is for you! Take to the Big Stage at Rich Mix and show us what you’re working with! We’re still looking for acts to perform, so if you know somebody or you are that somebody then get in contact.

What: Tilt’s London Liming
When: Thursday 12 April 7.30pm
Price: £7, £5 student or concs

Featuring John Hegley, Roger Robinson, Hannah Lowe, James Ingham and guests, co-hosted by Liming patron John Agard and Melanie Abrahams. Tilt’s London Liming is a spoken word party transporting the cosmopolitan vibe of Trinidad ‘liming’ culture to London. In April, Tilt’s London Liming Explores and Asserts Independence.

What: MARK STEEL’S IN TOWN
When: Thursday 19 April 7.30pm?

Following his highly acclaimed, Sony Award winning and Writers Guild Award winning Radio 4 comedy show Mark Steel’s In Town, and the publication of a book of the same title, writer and stand-up comedian Mark Steel is back on the road.

What: ENGLISH, INNIT?
When: Saturday 21 April 5.30pm
Price: £5

A special Snapshots event to coincide with St George’s Day that explores notions of Englishness and what is unique about our country. Join us for a smattering of bite-sized musings from storytellers, musicians, academics and authors as they offer us perspectives that pull on our heartstrings and engage our intellects. Each contributor has a maximum of 12 minutes to give us their insights. Expect inspiration a-plenty with a pinch of ol’ English humour chucked in for good measure. As part of Snapshot Festival. St George’s Day: My old man said follow the band.


What: JAWDANCE
When: Wednesday 25 April 7.30pm
Price: Free

Poetry. A stage. A microphone. You. Put it all together and you’ve got… Jawdance! A FREE monthly melange of good times and fine rhymes, films and fun, live performance and laughter. You can bounce up on stage to engage in the open-mic session. You can whoop your appreciation of the featured acts. You can rub your chin and make meaningful noises at our poetry film-shorts. It’s a powerful tonic of linguistic dexterity thrown into the Rich Mix on a Wednesday evening, so come drink your fill!

What: KNOCK2BAG COMEDY NIGHT

Feel August in April with award winning comedy promoters Knock2Bag as they squeeze into their skinny jeans and head East for the bi-monthly residency. Expect duckers, divers, movers, shakers, mincers, wincers, dodgers, bodgers, misters, blisters and tongue twisters. Starring The Human Car Crash of Light Entertainment and star of the Edinburgh Festival 2011 smash Dare to Dream NICK HELM; the phenomenon that is DAVID TRENT, Stand-up, writer, performer, director, actor, BAFTA winner and all round genius WILLIAM ANDREWS; The guru of nonsense, winner of the Perrier Award for Comedy and regular cast member of Channel 4’s Campus WILL ADAMSDALE; Established TV comic and star of BBC 3’s Tittybangbang, BBC 2’s Bellamy’s People and her own Radio 4 sketch series LUCY MONTGOMERY; and Host for the evening is rising star ED GAMBLE who is co-writer and host of the Chortle Award nominated Peacock and Gamble podcast.
