Sailing In Croatia With Koda Sail And Dave Lee

Sailing in Croatia is going to be as big as ever for summer 2016, so if you’re thinking about where to go and what to do next year, now’s the time to book. If cruising along the Adriatic coast under the summer sun sounds good to you, just check out what Dave Lee had to say about his experience with Koda Sail last August.

Why did you choose to go sailing in Croatia with Koda Sail?
Mainly because the marketing was targeting a slightly different crowd to Contiki, Topdeck and Busabout. The pricing also meant it was a bit more luxurious than some of the other cheaper tours.

What was your favourite stop?
Looking back, it’s a pretty tough one, but I’d have to say that my favourite stop was Dubrovnik. I got to check out the famous walls, went cliff jumping, met locals at a small bar and went to the biggest nightclub in town, which was heaps of fun with the rest of the other people on board.

What activities were available to you?
Swimming, diving off the boat, zip lining, white water rafting, wine tasting, pirate night and cliff jumping.

Which was your favourite?
Floating in the Adriatic Sea on a floating air bed when there was no current.

How did you bond with your fellow sailors?
Really well. With Koda Sail, it was mainly young professionals, so not everyone was out to get plastered every night.

How much time was spent sailing and on land?
I didn’t really notice too much sailing because we were normally still asleep, eating breakfast, having lunch, or sun baking. There was a decent amount of time on land at each stop to go explore and a decent amount of time at each swim stop. Most of the time, half of the people were done swimming when the allocated time was up and most people were back on the boat after checking out the city and chilling out because drinks were cheaper on board!

What was your experience of Croatian culture? Did you get to meet many people, try the food and explore?
Croatia in summer is very touristy. However, if you want to, you can ask the tour guide for alternative recommendations and spend the time exploring more local bars, cafes and restaurants. I did this multiple times and split my time between hanging out with my new friends and time exploring a city by myself.

What was the highlight of the trip for you?
Tough call. Dubrovnik was my favourite stop but I enjoyed the variety of experiences that were on offer. For an organised tour, there was also a decent amount of free time to wander the streets and explore the city on your own. And it’s a bit cliché, but I really enjoyed meeting a great group of people.
