Saves The Day – Artist Profile
It’s extremely rare for one band to have such a significant influence on not just a scene, but a generation of musicians that arose out of the millennium. New Jersey’s Saves The Day formed in 1994, yet it took until 1998 for them to release their debut album ‘Can’t Slow Down,’ however it was the release of the seminal ‘Through Being Cool’ that caught the attention of a whole generation of pop punk fans.
To this day you’ll find Geoff Rickley of Thursday, Max Bemis of Say Anything and Dan Campbell of The Wonder Years citing ‘Through Being Cool’ as an influence, and that’s just to name a few. You would be hard pressed to find a band on the Warped Tour that won’t list Saves The Day as an inspiration. The band then saw further success in 2001 with the release of ‘Stay What You Are’ after leaving Equal Vision Records to sign for Vagrant.
As the band progressed, so did their sound. And in 2003 they released ‘In Reverie’ on Dreamworks Records which split their fan-base and lost them the support of the label. After being dropped by Dreamworks and resigning to Vagrant it took until 2006 for a follow-up with ‘Sound The Alarm.’ This album formed part of a trilogy in which the band went back to their familiar sound and influences, and sent Chris Conley on a therapeutic journey both lyrically and musically, that ended in 2011 with the release of the successful ‘Daybreak.’
Having been riddled constantly with line-up changes, things have never been straight forward for Saves The Day. For 17 years the band have strived to progress, reinventing their musical identities at every corner through the ups and downs, while Chris Conley remained the stand alone figure that has kept Saves The Day going for all these years. Lesser bands would have most certainly given up years ago. To date they have released seven studio albums and are still finding themselves listed in Best Of…’s. and in spite of everything Saves The Day still holds a heavy influence over bands today.
Saves The Day are due to record a new album this year. They will also be playing Soundwave Festival through February and March.
