Secret Solstice 2016
Iceland’s magical Secret Solstice festival is like no over. Set against the spectacularly mountainous backdrop of Reykjavik, this festival is a far cry from the muddy fields of Glasto or the beachy setting of typical European festivals. Nearby to the festival’s location are the majestic Godafoss falls and the black sand dunes in Stokksnes meaning this festival is the ultimate spot for budding adventurers who want to see more of what Iceland has to offer.
What’s more alluring about this mystical festival is that the sun doesn’t set in this part of the world, meaning there’ll be no excuse to end the festivities! To top it all off, the line-up is ridiculous. The star-studded bill includes British favourites Radiohead as well as Deftones, Jamie Jones, Kerri Chandler and St Germain just to name a few.
The festival certainly earned its reputation in previous years and in 2015 announced the world’s first gig inside a glacier. The gig was a huge success and the festival look set to be doing it all over again in 2016. To take things to the extreme and really push the boundaries, Secret Solstice have a once in a lifetime secret lagoon party as well as the first ever public performance inside the magma chamber of a volcano! Attendees to this very special, exclusive event get airlifted by helicopter to the mouth of the Thrihnukagigur volcano and taken down 400ft – that’s more than the height of the Statue Of Liberty! Down in the chamber, you’ll be treated to the concert of a lifetime and an acoustic performance from a top international artist. Whilst they’re keeping the identity of this star under wraps for now, we’re anticipating big things judging by the venue!
Iceland’s Secret Solstice Festival runs from Thursday the 16th June until Sunday the 19th. For more information visit www.secretsolstice.is.
