SELECTIVE RESPONSE DISCUSSES THE CALIFORNIAN TECHNO SCENE & HIS FAVOURITE SURF SPOTS California’s techno scene has been growing steadily in the last decade, with a healthy warehouse party scene and home to Truncate and Drumcell. A newer name on the circuit, Selective Response has been making music for well over a decade, a project focused on industrial, EMB and the faster paced techno world. Support has come for his earliest releases on Bandcamp from Dax J, Perc and Amelie Lens, which lead him to start his own label ‘Crisis Of Man’ in 2019. SELECTIVE RESPONSE DISCUSSES THE CALIFORNIAN TECHNO SCENE & HIS FAVOURITE SURF SPOTS Releasing all his own material, his tracks have been picked up since by Cleric, Ansome, Remco Beekwilder and I Hate Models who he has played with in LA. Keeping his head down and finding new ways of gaining inspiration, he has been steadily producing throughout lockdown and we can expect a new release towards the end of this year, as well as a new name to grace the label.

SELECTIVE RESPONSE DISCUSSES THE CALIFORNIAN TECHNO SCENE & HIS FAVOURITE SURF SPOTS SELECTIVE RESPONSE INTERVIEW WITH FRANKIE SALT

Where are you from?

I’m from Orange County in Southern California

How can you best describe your sound?

Hard hitting techno hammers

Who are your biggest musical influences?

DJs like Perc, Dax J, Ansome etc. Bands like Trapped Under Ice, Terror, Depeche Mode

If someone was visiting your hometown for the first time, where should they check out?

I live 5 blocks from the ocean, so definitely the beach

Beach Club, sweaty rave or acoustic night?

That depends on the line-up, but I’d say sweaty rave > beach club > acoustic night

What have you been doing in lockdown to stay creative?

Surfing, training, meditating, reading, and journaling. I also started a new mindfulness podcast.

What and where have you been releasing in 2020?

I’ve been releasing two-track EPs via my own imprint Crisis Of Man

Dream collaboration or label?

Jeff Mills or Laurent Garnier

Tell us about your label Crisis Of Man, why start your own?

I was sitting on tons of music that was getting heavy support, but it didn’t fit any particular label. So instead of letting it go to waste, I decided to take my career and future into my own hands and start my own imprint.SELECTIVE RESPONSE DISCUSSES THE CALIFORNIAN TECHNO SCENE & HIS FAVOURITE SURF SPOTS  It was going to happen at some point anyway, but ended up happening much sooner than initially thought.
