Shapeshifters IVY Pool Party Review
The 26th of December is usually a time for post-Christmas chilling, scoffing barbeque leftovers and roast sandwiches- well, this year was a very different Christmas story at The Ivy: the place that was pumping this Boxing day.
As the early bird lunchtime ravers arrived- the techno thumps were already positioned high in the sky- rising alongside the blissful summer sun. The atmosphere from start to finish reminiscent of a top summer festival! (With a dash of pool-party swing and courtyard class)
Every member of the multiplying crowd was dressed to impress- stomping, splashing and seriously showing some love and devotion for the array of world class Djs playing for their ultimate pleasure. As the sun reached its pinnacle- so did the lift of house music to the soul. The Shapeshifters were the cause of many-a-thrown fist as they punched the double ‘P’ into Pool-Party. Their selection of well known and some deeper house was exactly what the Doctor ordered and the spectacular, poolside venue came alive and kicking. Definitely a moment many will remember from the year of 2011. The sound of soulful piano made the crowd feel like the Shapeshifters got ‘Nothing but love’ for them.
Upstairs in the courtyard- the crowd packed in- best friends were made with the person to your left as the friendly atmosphere grew through that shared look of passion and meaning for the music. The levels of energy burst into the sky as the frenzy of effects from the smoke and lights created the perfect setting for that end of year blowout.
Nervo’s popularity was evidently up there with the legendary Shapeshifters as they mixed commercial tracks with some lesser known sounds. The duo, Mim and Liv played the crowd like puppets on a string. The day and night party flew as other acts such as Art Vs Science, Mowgli and Tigerlilly had to cram in their sets that added to the standard of pure class and quality.
Overall the day was a Christmas celebration and a twelve hour festive feast of tunes that even Santa would be proud of.
