Shore Thing New Years Eve Party 2011 – Review

What with NYE being the most eagerly anticipated night of the year, we thought what better way to say goodbye to 2011 than to celebrate in style at one of Sydney’s biggest New Year’s Eve parties: Shore Thing on the fabulous Bondi Beach.

The event has been running since 2005 and has seen some of the biggest artists countdown to midnight including Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada and David Guetta to name just a few. This year’s line-up was set to beat all others with Calvin Harris, Perth’s very own Pendulum, and international rapper Snoop Dogg headlining.

Upon arrival the night was in full swing, with many partygoers adorned in oversized glasses, party hats and a range of fancy dress costumes. As night fell all that could be seen was an array of arms in the air, multi coloured flags outlining the paths and bright lights shining onto the crowd. If you moved away from the booming sound systems you could just about hear the crashes of Bondi’s waves – you can’t get much better than that!

Once Snoop Dogg appeared the crowd went wild, screaming along to some of their favourites including ‘Gin and Juice’, ‘I Wanna Fuck You’ and one of his newer tracks ‘Young, Wild and Free.’ Calvin Harris came on after with just enough time to see in the New Year followed by a lengthy firework display that took place next to the stage at midnight and left the crowd exhilarated.

Harris’ beats kept spirits soaring; his new single with Rihanna ‘We found love’ definitely defined the atmosphere on the night. In the early hours Pendulum took over to create a whirlwind of dance and messy vibes, with intense euphoric strobe lighting that kept the crowd in a world of their own – a truly memorable end to 2011.
