Single Review: Chela ‘Zero’

Follow us on Google News

Alternative Pop act Chela’s single ‘Zero,’ reminds BBM of Madonna’s early releases, with Chela’s prominent vocal style. She smoothly purrs, fairly deeply on the verses, before hitting higher on the chorus’, “I never wanna play alone if I go back to zero!” Her vocal range is able to perk the ears into attention.

Moving away from its synth beats, the track breaks into twangly electric guitar, adding an element of old-school Funk. Chela seems certainly fuelled by a retro fashion, (and no, we are not just talking about her 90s get up,) the tune wouldn’t sound amiss in an 80s chick flick. But its combination of new Dance and Pop, with a lingering nostalgia for what has been done before, is exactly why we like it.

Chela teamed up with Le Bruce in writing and producing the track, and the single is the leading track from a same titled EP, out now on Kitsune.
