Single Review: Kasper Bjorke feat. Jacob Bellens – Lose Yourself to Jenny
Lose Yourself to Jenny is the latest disco offering from Danish DJ and Producer, Kasper Bjorke. The single is released alongside remixes from Axel Boman, Robolledo, Maxxi Soundsystem and Till Von Stein, so no matter what type of ‘house-head’ you are – there will be a version that will get those fists pumping.
The handsome Dane has once again recruited the talents of his mate, Jacob Bellens (Murder and I Got Tape) who he collaborated with on 2010’s modern disco floor-filler ‘Young Again’. As well as his Joy Division-esque voice, Bellens contributes the memorable lyrics which will promise to get this summery track buzzing around in your head.
The original is instantly likeable and is bound to cause a stir on the airwaves with its stupidly catchy melody. Unlike a lot of dance tracks, Bellens’ lyrics are intriguing and make you want to listen as well as dance. This could well be the unique quality that makes it stand out from its rivals as the synth-pop dance track of 2012.
The remixes each offer something entirely different so you can expect to hear Bjorke’s track, in its various incantations, in clubs and warehouses the world over. Rebolledo’s drum heavy mix is nosebleed inducingly good. Axel Boman provides a typically playful mix. Maxxi Soundsystem serve up a fun tech-house version and Till Von Sein’s breakbeat effort leaves us with something that will have all the old-skool ravers out there skanking with joy.
The track is the first song to be released from his much anticipated new album, ‘Fool’ due for release, quite fittingly on April Fool’s Day. Get it? It’s Bjorke’s third studio album and is split into two quite different parts. One side, ‘Hunger’ is all about bittersweet, pop-infused love songs where as the ‘Fool’ side, is much more characteristic of the Dane with tracks of the psychedelic, spaced out disco variety. The album features a number of collaborations with some of Denmark’s most popular acts including his personal favourite band, Laid Back, Jacob Bellens (of course) and hotly tipped newcomer, Emma Acs.
Lose Yourself to Jenny is a likeable track that will attract the desired levels of attention from dance floor fanatics. It provides a great intro to the upcoming album and will no doubt spark the curiosity of those unfamiliar with his work. Roll on the 1st of April…
