Single Review: Night Works – Modern European
Night Works – AKA Gabriel Stebbing – is set to release brand new single ‘Modern European’ from his upcoming debut album, on November 12th through Loose Lips Records.
After stepping away from previous endeavours such as Metronomy and Your Twenties, Stebbing is now known by the moniker of his new project, Night Works. Following the success of previous singles, ‘I Tried so Hard’ and ‘The Eveningtime’, newest offering ‘Modern European’ is a more up-tempo and fun affair with a very light and airy feel to it.
The track is very synth driven and, comprising of a lot of different layers, is very complex; it’s a well-crafted piece of Electronic/Pop music. While the elements involved complement each other, there’s also something slightly off beat about the whole thing. The syncopated rhythm works to pique the listener’s interest and the almost melancholic tone to the vocals contradicts the bright vibe of the song.
The chorus then introduces a very catchy hook that injects more bounce into the track, and will have you singing along after a few listens. When you fully appreciate everything at work here, it does become clear that Night Works has a flair for what he does, and the end result is something very unique and different from anything out there right now.
