Single Review: SIREN – Here Today
Stefan Evan Niedermeyer a.k.a SIREN is the 22-year-old half-German half-Australian ex pro-skater turned Alt-Indie-Pop troubadour. Raised in Singapore and now residing in London, SIREN will be releasing new single ‘Here Today’ on November 12th through Loose Lips Records and is it a treat for the ears or what.
SIREN certainly brings something new to the table with ‘Here Today’ opening with flittering piano riffs, which soon turn into a whimsical ditty that bounces along with an element of cool laced throughout. The layered instruments create a fresh sound, which at times flutters between Electro with a synth wobbling throughout, however matched with a folky guitar keeping the pace it falters more on the Indie-Pop side.
His amiable vocals wander along the track and one could compare his vocal sound to that of Jack Johnson, but the depth of this multi-instrumentalist global cool kid is truly evident in the production that has gone into this track.
Releasing his debut double A-side ‘The Surrender/Buckets of Blood’ earlier this year in April, SIREN has slowly been gaining the attention of radio heavyweights such as Zane Lowe and Nick Grimshaw, and we’re certain that if SIREN doesn’t blow up by the end of the year, 2013 will certainly be a big year for him.
