Single Review: Thief – ‘Closer’

Follow us on Google News

Hailing from Sydney, Electronic Pop producer, PJ Wolf, releases ‘Closer’. He exchanges his old guitar sound, for sensationally upbeat synthesisers, with the leading single, from his new EP of the same name. The funky track is soulful enough to get you singing along, proving his experimental swap was a positive move.

The vocals complain, “I’m too tired of watching you fuck me over, I can’t be what you want me to, just look – closer!” The lyrics though negative of a failing relationship, are contrasted by spiralling synth, claps and foot tapping beats. Dribbles of Jazz drip into the track with the use of brass, adding to the uplifting mood in a refreshingly original way.

With its often identifiable theme in the track’s words, paired with feel-good Electronic sounds, a listener might find themselves singing along venomously with a juxtaposing smile on their face – and hey why not, maybe few dance moves too?
