Sonny Fodera Is Back home
The career of Sonny Fodera has skyrocketed in the past few years and 2016 has been huge for our homegrown DJ, earlier in the year he set off on a 30-date tour across the UK and USA, but he’s currently back home and in the middle of a seven-date Australian tour.
This year Sonny has recorded his inaugural BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, gained a nomination in the Best of Beatport Awards in the house category AND in the DJ Mag Awards Deep House category, and has just released his third studio album ‘Frequently Flying’ on Defected, an aptly named record for the jet setting DJ.
Born in Adelaide, his first taste of house music came from the rhythmic 4/4 grooves from the likes of Derrick Carter, this in itself inspired him to create his own brand of funky, groove-driven house. Sonny’s discography is impressive, he’s released on labels such as Cajmere aka Green Velvet’s Cajul Records, Visionquest and Suara and produced compilation albums on Defected and Deep Down, and with this has created a buzz around him all over the world.
His latest record Frequently Flying is the soundtrack to our Australian summer, packed full of catchy vocals, rolling deep-house beats and big name collaborations from Yasmin, Alex Mills, Kwame, Yasmin and more.
The remaining dates on his Australian tour will see him play Brown Alley in Melbourne on 23rd December alongside Doorly, after which he heads off to Sydney’s Chinese Laundry on 24th December. For Boxing Day he will be flying to west to Perth to play at the Badlands Bar before finishing off his Aussie tour at Beyond the Valley Festival in Victoria on 29th December.
