Soundwave Counter Revolution

Follow us on Google News

Soundwave counter revolutionDespite the controversy related with Soundwave Revolution, the guys have bounced back with strength, tweaking original plans a fair bit, but presenting us with a new one-off Spring music festival- Soundwave Counter Revolution.

With only a day to go before the Counter Revolution kicks off and taking place around the same dates as previously planned, SCR have shifted and focussed strongly on the pop punk/rock/alternative side of music, with Panic! At The Disco as headliners, also featuring All Time Low, Yellowcard, Story Of The Year, personal favourite Funeral For A Friend, and many others.

It’s only fair to look at all the good Soundwave has given to us over the years, with big-name acts such as Iron Maiden and high-demand bands. If pop punk’s your thing, the Counter Revolution is definitely the better option to what would have been the Revolution. A relatively smaller, but perfect sized, indoor venue for Sydney, with no set clashes, most sets averaging 30-40 minutes each, meaning no hard decisions or sacrifices have to be made. Not to mention, the price drop means affordability for younger fans.

Not to worry though, a lot of bands that would have performed at SWR are still making the trip to Australia in September including Hollywood Undead and Every Time I Die, with others already confirmed for the highly anticipated Soundwave 2012 including The Used, Hole and The Pretty Reckless.

Soundwave Counter Revolution dates are as follows:
Brisbane – 24 September, The Riverstage
Sydney – 25 September, Big Top Luna Park
Melbourne – 30 September, Festival Hall
Adelaide – 2 October, Fowlers Live and Courtyard
Perth – 3 October, Capitol and Amplifier (18+)

Tickets are available from Oztix, Ticketek, Ticketmaster and their website.

D.R.U.G.S.

Freshman post-hardcore supergroup Destroy Rebuild Until Gods Shows, better known as D.R.U.G.S. is definitely a band to keep an eye on. With the formation from ex and current members of Chiodos, From First To Last, Matchbook Romance, Story Of The Year and Underminded, D.R.U.G.S. have already produced catchy songs with attitude such as ‘Sex Life’, the band are set to wow all music listeners young and old. Intense energy channelled from all 5 band members is something to be excited about, with each member bringing their own styles to the table, their own personalities to the stage. There’s nothing like a good 30 minute hardcore set to warm up the crowd of hungry fans before headliners Panic! At The Disco jump on.

All Time Low

Since releasing their latest box of talent ‘Dirty Work’, American pop-punkers All Time Low have had mix feedback from long time fans, some preferring the old school style to their newer, poppier work, but whichever side you’re on, there’s no denying the amount of talent that surrounds the band. With a large fanbase down in Australia, All Time Low have catered to fans plenty, having toured here many times before, always putting on a great pop show, with frontman Alex Gaskarth and guitarist Jack Barakat winning all the girls.

Yellowcard

Reforming last year after their hiatus, American punk rockers Yellowcard have come back revived, re-energised and better than ever. And to celebrate this comes their new release ‘When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes’. Having taken time off to refocus has proven to be for the better for Yellowcard, starting out fresh, which this record truly illustrates as such, with Alex Key stating it to be the band’s ‘finest work’.

Hellogoodbye

Having a long gap between debut ‘Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!’ and sophomore album ‘Would It Kill You?’ along with multiple line-up changes, Hellogoodbye are finally coming back to our shores with frontman Forrest ready to show us what the band’s got. With worldwide hit ‘Here (In Your Arms)’, Hellogoodbye’s performances will be filled with catchy pop sensibilities sung and played by your dream geek boy.

The Damned Thingshollywood undead

Being only 3 years since its inception, heavymetal supergroup The Damned Things have definitely got a point to prove the music world. With remarkable talent from bands Anthrax and Fall Out Boy, this combo of musicians will have no problem doing just that. Their debut ‘Ironiclast’ is merely a preview to what is to come once they hit the stages throughout Australia for Counter Revolution.

Hollywood Undead + Skindred

Since their birth in 2008, Los Angeles’ Hollywood Undead have been mixing rap with rock and creating their own style of music, insanity included. These masked maniacs will truly leave a mark on all fans- heads buzzing with catchy attitude lyrics long after security empty the venues. Their latest goldmine ‘American Tragedy’ is truly one to get your hands on. 14 full tracks to go crazy, binge drink and wake up hung over the afternoon after a great party.

Making their way to Australia for the first time ever, Hollywood Undead are set and ready to blow fans across the country with pure energy and fury. Literally.

Heading along with them are british head bangers Skindred. They have been causing a ruckus within the underworld for over a decade, ever since their inception in 1998. Reinventing their own version of ragga-punk metal, Skindred are nothing short of unique. Their newest album ‘Union Black’ has been released locally through 3Wise Records and is definitely one that has launched the band from underground to higher ground.

Every Time I Die + The Acacia Strain + The Word Alive

Every Time I Die are hitting the shores and ready to tear it up!

Hailing from Buffalo, New York, the insanity that is Every Time I Die cannot be contained or summed up at all, producing multiple great albums that are absolutely upredictable and full of madness. This can all be demonstrated through their fifth studio album titled ‘New Junk Aesthetic’, showing the band’s on-going ques to corrupt and destroy all who listens, with some of their most skilful and hard-hitting work to date. Every Time I Die’s on-stage antics are not one to be watched from a computer screen, but rather experienced the traditional way- front row center and live.

Some bands project lyrical, catchy pop. Others prefer to redefine the meaning of anger. Massachusetts rebels The Acacia Strain so just that, and will be showcasing such rage in concert alongside Every Time I Die, also playing songs off their latest record ‘Wormwood’.

Kicking off the night on this tour will be Arizonians The Word Alive, presenting to the world a brand new genre of their own. Known to be one of heavy music’s greatest upstarts, the band’s live performances are indescribable, leaving fans across the globe gasping for more.
