Singapore, a world apart from the rest of Asia, is clean, modern, and cosmopolitan. It is also a major travel hub in the Asia-Pacific part of the world, and a great place for a stop over if you’re travelling to Australia or the South East.

See
Singapore Zoo is one of the best in the world, and you can eat breakfast with the orang-utans. Case closed. Alternatively, Sentosa, one of Asia’s best playgrounds is heaps of fun for kids and adults like. The island resort is visited by some twenty million every year and is home to a 2km sheltered beach, two golf courses, 14 hotels, spas, The Merlion and Singapore’s Universal Studios theme park and much more. You won’t get bored.
Shop
This is what Singapore is famous for. China Town or Little India are a great place to track down some unique knick-knacks and cheap deals: even $10 can go a long way. Alternatively, find a mall.
Eat
Sunday Brunch is an age-old Singaporean tradition: head to a nice hotel or local cafe. The Fullerton is pricey, but famous for its mouth-watering deserts, and offers unlimited food options. On the other end of the scale, head to China Town, or to 328 Katong Laksa in the old Peranakan neighbourhood mixes Chinese and Malay cuisine for with delicious results. You can buy a delicious laksa soup (spicy coconut milk, prawns, cockles, tofu, bean sprouts and noodles) for about $4. Whatever kind of food you’re into, chances are you’ll find it here.
Sleep
Five Stones Hostel is Singapore’s leading backpackers’ hostel on Arab Street, smack in the middle of the action. A stone’s throw from Little India, the hostel provides free breakfast and discount tickets to some of the best tourist attractions around. If you want to splash the cash, try the Pan-Pacific Singapore on Marina Square, with great ocean views, a beautiful pool area, great dining options and, um, direct access to a shopping mall.
