Strictly Vinyl Party Is Back At The Espy
It’s time for round three of Strictly Vinyl Party. The wax is back and it’s got a spanking new venue – The Espy Basement.
The premise is simple. Strictly vinyl, strictly rhythm, strictly business. The night was born out of frustrations at having nowhere to play rare groove, house and boogie tunes on vinyl to people who are mutually obsessed by black music.
But while it’s an attempt (and a successful one too) to revive the classic traditions of NYC disco, house and London boogie, this ain’t no retro night, and modern sounds get a spin too. The only selection criteria is HEAT.
This time around we have disco royalty J’Nett, Jimmy James and Ransom on the decks. Ransom, regularly acclaimed as one of Australia’s finest DJs whatever the genre, was a notable omission from the last two SV parties.
On the bill with Phil is Melbourne’s Reigning Queen of dance music J’Nett, and London’s finest Jimmy James.
With their respective (and respected) backgrounds in all things dance music, this holy trinity of local heat will be spinning a mix of soul, disco, boogie, hustle, house, hip-hop (from Bambaataa to Dilla), new jack swing, no wave, dancefloor jazz, latin, funk, electro and afrobeat.
