An Update To Student Visas For Australia
Thinking about studying in Australia? Then make sure you know what is required for your student visas for Australia.
From 1st July 2016, dramatic changes were introduced by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to the Student Visa.
From the current 8 subclasses, the number of student visas has now been cut down to just 2. Now that’s really worth the drama.
Students who wish to study in Australia may only need to apply for either the Subclass 500 (Student) or the Subclass 590 (Student Guardian). The former lets you study a full-time course in a registered school, and stay until you finish it. The latter, on the other hand, is applicable to guardians of an international student younger than 18 years old.
Changes to Student Visas For Australia
The changes of the student visa are believed to help streamline the application and processing requirement, simplify onshore applications, strengthen the integrity of the student visa program by replacing the current assessment level framework, and clearly outline visa conditions to eliminate confusions.
Student Visa Assessment Levels
Speaking of the Assessment Levels, an applicant’s country of origin no longer matter in the new system. The new focus is now on the risk rating of the education provider.
Academic institutions are now ranked by the Department of Immigration with a Risk Rating of 1 to 3. The lower the rating the easier the student visa application will be. Requirement of the English language will also be lenient at this rating.
Most student visa conditions will be the same, including the application fees, arrangement for health cover (OSHC), and the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE).
