Single Review: Substantial – Grateful ft. Kenn Starr & Kokayi

The production present on Substantial’s new single, ‘Grateful’ is something that other rappers can only dream about, and that’s all thanks to one of Australia’s biggest Hip-Hop producers, MPhazes.

As the beat rolls on, the opening lyrics performed by DC rapper, Kokayi don’t exactly sound unique, and there’s barely any memorable rhyme considering it’s the main hook of the song.

Kenn Starr’s addition to the track contains a much more impressive approach, but it’s Substantial’s final word that really makes the record stand out. His flow is impeccable and his lyrics are intelligent, more than enough to push out the other less desirable kinks within the song.
