Sydney Festival Announce ‘Dido & Aeneas’ as 2014 Festival Centrepiece
A radical re-telling of Henry Purcell’s classic ‘Dido & Aeneas’ is set to be the main spectacle at Sydney Festival 2014.
Sasha Waltz – a champion of contemporary German dance-theatre – will stage the show and the oldest love story in English opera will be brought to life by 60 dancers, singers and musicians at the Sydney Lyric from Thursday 16th January to Tuesday 21st January 2014.
Water will be a central motif in the production – in fact, there will be a giant water tank, almost spanning the width of the stage, which will be raised several metres off the floor. From a ladder, dancers will climb to the top of the tank and then plunge into the water, weaving their steps as well as trying to stay submerged for as long as possible!
‘Dido & Aeneas’ is expected to be a choreographed opera sensation quite unlike any other, book your tickets NOW.
