Tessa-interview

Up and coming band from Ballarat , Tessa & the Typecast have got many ears wagging since they first hit our radio stations back in late 2010. BBM’s Sarah Wilk spoke to 21 year old lead-singer Tessa Pavilach to find out more.

The collaborative quintet toured for the launch of their second single this month in Melbourne, Sydney, Ballarat and Adelaide. When asked about the reception they received, Tessa replied “It was great; the crowd were especially great for us at the Sydney show.”

The musically gifted Tessa not only sings and plays the piano but too writes all of the lyrics. “Listening to other artists and generally just different situations throughout the day” are what gets her creative flow going.

When asked which musicians in particular, she elaborated “I actually spend a lot of time listening to male artists. I have a whole array of male artists that I listen to all the time. I wouldn’t want to cut out being inspired my male artists just because I am a female performer, that wouldn’t be being true. I listen to as much as possible but count three of my biggest inspirations as Thom Yorke from Radiohead, Patrick Watson and Arcade Fire”

It’s a busy few months ahead for the band with “a couple of other shows in Victoria coming up, a video clip release in August 6th in Melbourne then we’ll have to get back into the studio to finish the EP.”

Tessa seemed excited talking about the imminent release of the EP which “will hopefully be out in October…..if it all goes to plan!”

After a string of successful shows, I asked Tessa whether the band were interested in performing at any festivals over the summer. She replied saying “We hope that we will create a bit of a buzz when the EP comes out and then we would absolutely love to do some festivals in the summer. There isn’t one in particular that we’d most want to do. I guess we wouldn’t be fussy over which ones, we’d just be happy to perform.”
