Thailand Travel Tips
Even if you’ve never been to Thailand, the name alone brings to mind markets, food, beaches and jungle, but there’s so much more to this incredible part of Southeast Asia. Before you book your flight and tours, here are some handy travel tips to keep in mind when visiting this part of the world.
Travelling Solo
Many people that visit Thailand do travel solo, but there are some great tours that you can join to meet like-minded people, and you can even continue travelling with your new-found friends once the organised tour has finished.
Carrying Money
No one wants to carry around bundles of cash with them, and when was the last time you saw anyone pay with a traveller’s cheque? Take two PIN-protected debit or credit cards with you to Thailand, keep both in different places on your person, so if you lose one, you have a backup. There are ATM’s available throughout Thailand for you to get access to the money that you need.
The Language
The majority of locals in tourist spots speak English. Such places include the city of Bangkok and the popular islands such as Koh Pha Ngan. However, it’s traveller’s courtesy to learn a few words, such as hello, goodbye, please, and thank you.
Health And Safety
Thailand is generally a safe place. Important things to remember are to be respectful of the Thai culture and have common sense e.g. don’t get naked inside a temple, don’t get too close to any stray animals, don’t leave your belongings unattended, and don’t drink out of a tap. While injections aren’t mandatory before you leave for Thailand, you may want to protect yourself against Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Tetanus.
Embrace Everything
Keeping in mind the health and safety aspect, you should try to do everything that you can while in Thailand. Try the street food that costs a fraction of the price of a restaurant, discover the nightlife of Bangkok, enjoy the half priced drinks during happy hour, party at the famous Full Moon Party, and trek through the epic wilderness of the jungle.
