Follow us on Google News

Anyone that’s stepped inside one knows it: there’s just something about an Irish pub. Due to their popularity, whether it be the food, the drink or the authentic craic, there are Irish pubs all over the world waiting to welcome you with open arms. Wherever you are on this great big planet, you can find the heart of Ireland anywhere, and these places prove it.

O’Reillys, Sweden

A name synonymous with Irish tradition, O’Reilly’s in Kalmar, Sweden is award-winning. This bright and warm pub serves up helpings of Irish stew, braised lamb shank and beef and Guinness pie, washed down with draught and bottled beer and ale from Ireland, Germany and the Czech Republic to name a few. There’s also live music every weekend, so your eyes and ears are treated just as well as your taste buds!

Angus O’Tool’s, Phuket

A pub and guesthouse, Angus O’Tool’s will fill you up with food and beer and then provide you with a comfy bed to sleep it off in. There’s all your favourite meals like steaks, homemade pie, all-day breakfast and a Sunday roast, as well as Guinness, Kilkenny and Magners on draught and live sport on the plasma screens. The deal-breaker for this pub? It’s just 300m from Karon Beach, one of Thailand’s cleanest beaches.

The Last Jar, Melbourne

You can’t get much more rustic than The Last Jar. Beautifully quaint and absolutely charming, there are no gimmicks or clichés, just amazing food in an atmosphere that completely consumes you. The food really does put other Irish pubs to shame with Guinness Welsh rarebit, potato and ham hock stuffed pig’s tail, and smoked mackerel pate – and that’s just the snacks! Don’t miss the half price oysters every Thursday, 5-7pm.

O’Lunney’s, New York

Surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Times Square, O’Lunney’s brings a piece of the Emerald Isle to the people of New York. Whether it’s your first taste of an Irish pub or you’ve lost count how many times you’ve put a cold pint of Guinness to your lips, O’Lunney’s doesn’t disappoint. With a traditional menu of fish, bangers and mash, and Irish breakfast (complete with black and white pudding), the draught beer list is as long as your arm – so it’s a good thing the bar stays open ‘til 4am every night of the week!

So we’re cheating a little with this one. With four locations in the UK (two in London, one in Manchester and one in Glasgow), Waxy O’Connor’s is more of a labyrinth that serves whiskey, wine and meals in a whimsical environment than a simple pub. Located in the heart of all three cities, you can explore the different levels, find a spot that suits you and settle in for the evening.

Delaney’s, Hong Kong

Hong Kong loved Delaney’s so much when it opened in Wanchai in 1994, that they built another two, one in Kowloon and the other in Pokfulam. These local favourites provide helpings of steamed mussels, oxtail soup, lamb stew and more, but the piece de resistance? It’s got to be the endless Guinness Stout on draught. There’s also the longest happy hour you’ve ever had the please to attend, starting at 3pm and ending at 9pm at Delaney’s Wanchai – that’s a whole lot of happy.

Surry Hills Irish Pub, Sydney

With its red brick interior, crackling fires in the winter and classic Irish menu, The Porterhouse is a Sydney staple, especially in the colder months. Weekly specials include $12 beef and Guinness pie on Tuesday and a $15 Sunday roast with a choice of lamb or beef. You can also rely on pints of traditional favourites like Guinness, Kilkenny and Magners to be on special offer – $7 every day of the week.

Kilkenny, Berlin

Berlin may be famous for its own breweries, but it won’t shy away from celebrating its Irish counterparts. With three rooms incorporating a different aspect of Irish culture, Guinness is king, meals are decadent and there’s a new band each weekend to play the soundtrack to your Friday or Saturday night. And what would a pub without sport? Whether it’s Premier, Champions or Europa, you can watch it live right here.
