The BridgeClimb Sydney Experience
If there’s one thing that tops everything in Sydney, it’s experiencing your very first BridgeClimb. Nothing beats standing above the city, looking out over the harbour, the skyscrapers and beyond, on top of this great steel structure. For Sydney may be famous for its weather, the Opera House, the beaches and the start of an Australian adventure, but the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the climb to the top encapsulates all of this and more, which is why it ranks as the number one thing to do in the city.
There are climbs throughout the day, beginning at dawn and going all the way to night time, so that you can look down upon Sydney at a time that suits you. Take in the pinkish tint of the clouds as the sun rises, bask in the bright blue sky during the day, and watch the city twinkle beneath a blanket of darkness come nightfall. Seeing the many faces of Sydney change from dawn to dusk is just one of the reasons why many do BridgeClimb more than once.
Preparing For Your Climb
Lasting around three hours, your BridgeClimb adventure begins as soon as you step through the door of the Climb Base. With the Visitor Centre & Cinema, you can find out more about the history, preservation and celebration of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, before you embark on your climb. Joined by a Climb Leader and no more than 14 in a group, you’re kitted out with all of the gear that you’ll need to stay safe while on the bridge, so all you need is your sunglasses, a pair of comfortable shoes and a sense of adventure! While you might want to take photos of the spectacular view, you can’t take your camera on the climb with you. But don’t worry – your Climb Leader takes loads of photos that you can purchase later.
The Climb To The Top
The climb itself involves 1,332 steps, each one getting you closer and closer to the summit as you ascend the arches of the bridge. Finally, you reach the top, 134m above sea level, and are rewarded with stunning views of one of the most beautiful harbours in one of the most iconic cities in the world. Pose for your group photo and soak up the uninterrupted panoramic before your very eyes.
During the entire climb, your Climb Leader will be able to educate and entertain with facts and stories about the bridge, from the very first proposal all the way back in 1815, to its opening in 1932 and its importance in local celebrations.
