The Flinders Ranges
If you’re looking to spend some time down in South Australia, then The Flinders Ranges are an absolute must.
The Flinders Ranges rise up from the north end of the Spencer Gulf, just 220km from Adelaide, go on for 800km, and are the gateway to the outback. You can bushwalk and check out the wildlife along the way and if you manage to get to the most northerly end of the range, there are plenty of sand ridges and empty salt lakes to keep you occupied.
You can hire a 4WD or car, get on the train, or simply hop on a tour bus which will take you to any of the major attractions. These include Alligator Gorge in Mt Remarkable National Park, Brachina Gorge, and the ironstone capped ridge nick named the Great Wall of China. It is better to explore the ranges during the winter when it is cooler, but tours run all year round.
