The Hidden Gems Of Eastern Europe

Follow us on Google News

You love to travel. But where should you travel next? Eastern Europe is home to some of the best historic landmarks and hearty food. Whether or not your flight is booked, check the validity of your EHIC card before you go to ensure you are eligible to receive health care whilst abroad. Visit www.ukehic.com to find out more. Here’s why we think you should add Eastern Europe to your travel diary:

Riga, Lavita

One of the top ten things to do in Riga, Lavita this year are the array of walking tours. From walking about the Old Town to the Riga Town Hall Square, Old City Riga or Alberta Lela, if you have a keen eye for carefully crafted traditional buildings, statues and fountains this is a place you’ll love. As the largest city in the Baltics too, you won’t find yourself lost for things to do. Take the crowded lift or walk to the top of St Peter’s church and admire the view that continues as far as the eye can see.

Brasov, Romania

Despite being a city, Brasov is still unknown. Explore the tiniest of streets in Europe. Measuring just four feet wide, walking these streets aren’t for the faint hearted. Starting in the Piata Sfatului, tour the Biserica Neagra church or hike up to Tampa Mountain. Almost 400 metres over the city, Tampa Mountain is fun for the whole family, or if you’re travelling alone. Make friends on the cable car to the top and take in the magnificent views together.

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest has been named one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. With more than 4.4 million visitors every year and home to the World War 2 hospital below the Buda Castle, its hidden gems really are hidden. Full of quirky architecture and statues, Budapest has something for the whole family to enjoy whether you’re looking for a week away with the kids, or affordable weekend for two. Spend as little as three days in Budapest to discover some of the most popular attractions.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Home to some of the most beautiful mediterrean beaches in Europe, do you need another reason to visit this iconic landmark? Dubrovnik is one amongst ten best preserved medieval cities in the world. Located next to the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik has some of Europe’s quintessential surroundings. There are a number of sites in the Old City where of Thrones was recorded, not only that but you can tour the King’s Landing. Just 12 miles wide, get on board with the local cuisine, culture and luxury living.

Berat, Albania

Visit the iconic National Ethnographic Museum in Berat. Opened in 1979, there is a tonne of history to get stuck into, from the wooden floor planks, ceiling designs and archways, let your eyes lead the way. Located on the Osum River, some of the most fascinating things to do in Berat are free. If you enjoy fine-dining the WhiteHouse Restaurant offers some of the best food on the market and is highly recommend by almost everyone who goes.

Travelling doesn’t mean having to travel outside of Europe. In fact, some of the best gems can be found in Europe. Next time you go to book a holiday, why not give Eastern Europe a go.
