Jordie Lane will hit the road to celebrate the release of his new single, ‘Fool For Love’, available as an exclusive free download from October 1. Walking with a West Coast bass line and trash can drums, the track also sees the return of The Eagle Rock Gospel Choir. Recorded in LA with Grammy Award winning Producer, Tom Biller (Kanye West, Beck, Fiona Apple) and legendary drummer Matt Chamberlain (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Stevie Nicks), the single marks a new direction for Australia’s folk troubadour, and is the first single from Jordie’s forthcoming third album, due for release early next year.

The Mess Hall
with special guests
Saturday 24 November 2012 8:30pm
This will be The Mess Hall’s one and only Melbourne show for 2012. Having last played in Melbourne in 2010, and with a recent one-off, blindingly great sold-out Sydney show under their whippet-thin belts, the show will provide a timely reminder of their quality. The Mess Hall has released a series of critically acclaimed EPs and albums since their formation. Their album, ‘The Devil’s Elbow’, won the 2007 Australian Music Prize, and following the release of their most recent album, ‘For The Birds’, in 2009, the band has spent the past couple of years concentrating on “other projects”. Singer and guitarist Jed Kurzel won Feature Film Soundtrack of the Year for his acclaimed ‘Snowtown’ score at the 2011 Screen Music Awards, among other things. Drummer Cec Condon formed freakbeat collective Machete Moon. The Mess Hall will reconvene to record a new album at some point, but in the meantime this is the only opportunity to see one of the country’s finest live outfits perform in 2012.

The Pierces (USA) – On sale Monday 8 October
with special guest
Wednesday 14 November 2012 8:00pm
Back in May, the Alabama-raised sister duo of Allison and Catherine Pierce were confirmed to make their debut appearance in Australia, opening the stage for Coldplay on their east coast stadium tour in November. Chugg Entertainment is pleased to confirm that in addition to these dates, the songbird sister-act will be headlining an exclusive Melbourne show at the Northcote Social Club. Their fourth album, ‘You & I’, signals a new start for the sisters who already have three albums under their belts. As far as The Pierces’ sound goes, despite all manner of comparisons being thrown around; from a country-folk version of Agnetha and Anni-Frid, or a noughties take on Heart, it is clear to say that The Pierces have a sound all their own. Praised by The Times for their “honeyed harmonies and huge pop hooks,” at the heart of ‘You & I’, they were singled out by one newspaper as one of the most promising new bands of 2011.

Eagle Twin’s helmsman Gentry is no stranger to innovative, heavy music. Densley was the musical visionary and leader of the legendary jazz, prog, rock, metal, hardcore group Iceburn (aka The Iceburn Collective) from 1991 to 2001. Iceburn has been called the greatest and most important musical offering from Salt Lake City since the Osmonds! Although Iceburn was primarily an instrumental force, with Eagle Twin Gentry is much more vocal and the depth of his lyrics is endless.

What: Primitive Calculators (Single Launch) with Lost Animal
and Standish/Carlyon
When: Friday 5 October 2012 8:30pm
Where: The Northcote Social Club
Price: Ticket: $14.00 ($3.00 bf)- $17 at the door if still available
Only 33 years after their iconic 1979 debut single ‘I Can’t Stop It / Do That Dance’, Melbourne’s synth-punk snarlers Primitive Calculators are releasing their next studio-recorded seven inch single. Having reformed in 2009 at the invitation of the Nick Cave-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival, Primitive Calculators are making up for 30 years of lost time, working on their debut studio album to be released in early 2013. ‘Sick Of Myself’ is a new song expressing all the self-loathing involved in being in a 50-something synth-punk band. For many years, Primitive Calculators’ sizeable legend thrived on their self-released 1979 single, and their involvement in Richard Lowenstein’s 1986 film ‘Dogs In Space’, starring INXS’ Michael Hutchence. Primitive Calculators are active again, ‘Sick/C*#!’ is an impressive, harshly hilarious signpost along the way to a new studio album due in early 2013 – their first ever!

What: Minibikes (Album Launch)with Heavy Beach and Bayou
When: Saturday 6 October 2012 8:30pm
Where: The Northcote Social Club
Price: $10 at the door only
On first encountering Minibikes’ debut album, ‘For Woods Or Trail’, one could easily imagine that the up and coming four piece would be better suited to climates far warmer than the cold grey streets of Melbourne. It is perhaps in protest to the eternal winter that plagues their home city that Minibikes have released a musical document positively evoking the spirit of summer. It’s all upbeat grooves, fervent guitars and a production aesthetic that clings to the abundant hooks on offer like a shirt on the back during a clammy night ride through the hot deserted streets of a city, and they’re launching it at this show.

Unpaved, Melbourne’s online home of country-folk and roots music, celebrates its first anniversary at this show with supreme talent provided by Liz Stringer, Saint Jude and Sean McMahon’s Western Union. Liz Stringer said it was a pleasure to be involved as the website “provides a new, fresh forum for musicians and music lovers, and is a positive and very welcome addition to the Melbourne music community”.
