The Official Melbourne NYE Celebrations 2012This New Years Eve in Melbourne, there are many totally free events to get your teeth stuck into! Not only are they free but they are also spectacular, from firework displays to big party celebrations, Melbourne has it covered.

We thought we would give you a little helping hand with the masses of events that make it so difficult to choose and hand you a small platter with the best bite sized bits of them all.

A treat for all the families that have small children and want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Waterfront, can all pile into Yarra Park’s Family Precinct! Roving performances, carnival rides, sporting activities and of course some amazing Australian artists on the main stage will keep you tapping your foot to the beat as the sun sets and the fireworks emerge. Grab your biggest picnic blankets and prep a picnic and lure your loved ones into Yarra Park for a fun and exciting New Years Eve.

What: The Family Precint At Yarra Park
Time: 6:00pm- 10:00pm
Fireworks will begin at 9:30pm and finish at 10:00pm

Aside from the families with young wipper snappers relaxing on cosy blankets, waiting to witness the magnificent display of colours the Melbourne fireworks display casts across the skyline, are the many people that gather across the Melbourne Waterfront Docklands like a squashed banana waiting to view the spectacle up close.

Alexandra Gardens & Birrarung Marr
These locations are very note worthy ones as BBM has the inside scoop on the best view points for the magnificent fireworks when the clock strikes twelve, and these ladies and gentlemen are two of them! From here you will be amongst four fantastic stages crammed with live entertainment throughout the night. As well as the opportunity to bring a picnic and perch yourself upon one of the many grassy banks, get cosy and prepare for the performers and firework finale.

What: Alexandra Gardens & Birrarung Marr
Time: 7:00pm- 1:00am

If sitting down isn’t your thing then how about heading down to the Waterfront City, Docklands? Not short of fabulous restaurants, traditional shops at the Harbour Town Shopping Centre you can enjoy the lead up to the event with a chilled out day. If your searching for a bit of an adventure? Then head down to the Victoira Harbour and jump on a boat cruise, or perhaps even get your skates on down at Medibank Icehouse, whatever you choose make sure your back in time to head down to the Waterfront. The entertainment, performers and of course the legendary fireworks will put that 2012 cherry on the cake and welcome 2013 with the most spectacular show to blow your mind.

Transport
Got all the way there and hadn’t thought about getting home? It’s lucky we planned ahead for you! Public transport is the best way to travel in and out of the city on New Years Eve. The trains, trams and buses running through the city are free from 6pm and run all night, so there is no reason for you to cut your celebrations short!
