The Pigs Interview
Australian Bluegrass family funster band, The Pigs, will be playing at Deni Ute Muster on 2nd October, showcasing their trademark sense of humour and hillbilly hats. here, we speak to them about playing the festival and what ticket-holders can expect from this rambunctious bunch!
Hey guys, how are you?
Fan-bloody-tastic… Thank-Ewe!
Are you looking forward to heading to Deni Ute Muster on 2nd October?
Abso-bloody-lutely! We love the Ute Muster! It’s the spiritual home to lovers of the blue singlet. It’s the site of the biggest mosh-pit dustbowl event at any Pigs concert. And it’s really a distinctly Australian fest,…so we’re excited to play tunes off the new album ‘The Pigs’ Home Brew: 13 Aussie Classics’.
What can ticket-holders expect from a set from The Pigs?
We’ll be performin’ tunes from our new record like Powderfinger done country style, The Divinyls bluegrass-ified – as well as all our greatest hits like ‘Macho Moisturiser’, ‘Hey Christina’… and yes, that Beyonce song. We’ll also be havin’ fun as only us Pigs can do.
Will you be looking to enjoy the festival atmosphere yourself or will you have to head off after your set?
Cold Chisel are playin’! We lay awake at night dreamin’ about bein’ their illegitimate sons. Hope they hear us playin’ our new bluegrass version of their tune ‘Ita’.
From your original material to covers, your style is very unique; where did it stem from originally? What was your influence?
We’re a family band, so we were largely influenced by our Par. We really love all kinds of music. And we love squishin’ ‘em together, from Bill Munroe to Kanye West. We’re probably most inspired by Dame Edna and The Little Aussie Bleeder.
Your covers range from iconic Australian bands like INXS and Cold Chisel to R&B and Hip Hop artists like Beyoncé, Kelis and Kanye West; who else is on your hit list?
Our hit list is long! There’s so much work to be done. There’s no form of music that can’t be improved with the banjo. Taylor Swift needs a good going over… as do The Beatles. And we’re cookin’ up a smokin’ bluegrass version of The Nutcracker Suite.
Are you still using Macho Moisturiser?
Every. Single. Day. It’s the secret to our unlikely sex appeal, and our fountain of eternal ute.
What do you all get up to besides making music?
Stretch spends a lot of time attempting to home brew, but it’s basically undrinkable. T-Bone likes to macramé stubby holders.
