What: OUR LAST ENEMY EP LAUNCH, VOLTERA & FULL CODE
When: Friday 18 May 9pm
Price: $12 + bf from www.moshtix.com.au / $15 door
Having wrapped up touring at the end of last year and with some time to recover and rejuvenate, they are about to come storming back with an EP to bridge the gap between their first album and their much anticipated follow up which will soon see the light of day. The EP, titled Wolves Of Perigord is both an initiation for some of the new blood in the band and something for their fans to sink their teeth into. On the EP, the band comment that ‘We’ve got some of the most intense songs we’ve ever written on this EP. It has the perfect balance of chaos and structure. Its as sharp as a knife and as blunt as a brick to the face. Musically, we combed over everything, everyone had a say in everything, really being the true meaning behind the word “band”. The title comes from a pack of wolves that terrorized Perigord, France in the 18th century. The wolves shocked the region to its core and Our Last Enemy see a lot of similarities between those wolves and themselves. Staying together, fighting the odds and being hunted down and persecuted for doing what came naturally to them, and them continuing to do it, despite any consequence. To support the EP, Our Last Enemy are playing Revolver Upstairs with special guests VOLTERA and FULL CODE.

What: SON I LOVED YOU AT YOUR DARKEST: Oliver Wilcox art exhibition, GREED DJS
When: Thursday 31 May 6pm
Price: Free
Son I Loved You At Your Darkest is the second solo exhibition from the ex-Lismore, now Melbourne-based artist Oliver Wilcox. The large, vibrant oil paintings present an image bank ranging from delicate, alien-like flowers, a boyish use of skulls and anatomical extractions, to masculine male figures and portraiture. The work is most notably bound together by the heavens; repeated motifs of radiant stars and glowing galaxies, forcing a particularly otherworldly energy onto the Earthly imagery. The exhibition portrays the vision of an artist demanding significance in an infinitely large universe, yearning for purpose in a violently chaotic existence, exploring concepts of unconditional love in a conditioned world. This is the vision of an artist who is painting not to be understood, but to understand. Music by GREED DJS all night.

Queens Birthday Eve we’ll be taking to the stage with a bunch of Australia’s finest live techno exports: Deepchild live, Steve Stevens live (Jamie Stevens & Steve Ward) and Haul Music live (Mike Callander and Craig McWhinney). Deepchild is Berlin-based producer Rick Bull – a regular dj/live-pa in Berlin at club-institutions like Berghain, Tresor, Weekend Club, Watergate, as well as veritable international touring machine…from Tokyo to Australia, and extensively across North America and Eastern Europe. As a core member of the Trapez recording-artist roster, the deepchild production-aesthetic remains firmly routed in an exploration of “post-Detroit” machine-music – bass-heavy, insistent, angular, raw, noisy and dub-laden techno, with persistent references to classic-disco and soul rising and falling between rumbling proto-funk and mutant R’n’B. Raw, seductively uncompromising techno, distilled from an arsenal of renegade drum-machines and decrepit synthesizers, with a live-PA embracing hardware-improvisation and excessive amounts of sweat. Front room DJ support from Out Of Focus Crew Bryce Lawrence, Louis McCoy and Glyn Hill, Revolver Sundays QBE special back room lineup to be announced in the coming weeks.
