The response to their whirlwind tour was so overwhelmingly positive that the band are set to return for this Summer Festival season. Hailing from New Orleans, with the vibrant blues music of the twenties and thirties, the 7 piece brass band of tuba, trombone, cornet, guitar, tenor banjo, vocals and washboard evokes the rich musical history of the city. Audiences will be transported to another era; attracting the best dancers in town, attracting mass crowds. But it’s not all about excitement and antics – Tuba Skinny has 7 musicians of the highest order, all the while remaining free of imitation.

Wednesday 18 January
JULIANNA BARWICK (USA) with special guests WINTERCOATS plus SUPERSTAR

Julianna Barwick’s atmospheric world is one of ghostly echoes, galactic lullabies and traditional chants. By means of loops and pedals, and occasional piano and percussion, she builds layer upon layer of abstract vocals to create a delicate sound of lush ambient folk. Julianna’s amazing new album The Magic Place (out now on Mistletone Records / Inertia) is a nine-piece full-length album of magic and solace, bursting joy and healing tones. Like Sigur Rós’s ethereal glossolalia, there’s a very particular joy in listening to Julianna’s music. Free of the constraints of narrative and traceable language, it’s the same joy in giving yourself over to opera in a foreign language, of letting go of your pesky rational mind and allowing the feeling to come through in the voices and performance.
