Things to do in Australia this June
Whether you are on a budget or taking time off to see a bit of the land down under, the country has lots of activities that won’t break your bank. Read on for our guide of some of the best Things to do in Australia during this month of June.
Blak box art installation
For lovers of art and immersive installations, the Blak Box Installation in Sydney will definitely be up your street. On entering the installation shaped like a white box, visitors can hear in first person, tales of indigenous people through the ages. Since the inception of the Blak Box concept three years ago, this year in June will mark the first time that it will be set up in the Barangaroo reserve. The instillation invites curious minds to take a look inside at this imposing white box that has been installed. A team from the Urban Theatre Project masterminded this sound and art pavilion that aims to bring to life the stories of indigenous communities who lived in this reserve. At any given time the pavilion is capable of accommodating around 30 people inside. Dimly lit, but dramatic in effect, a thirty minute audio track that combines voices, sound and music is played back on state-of-the-art surround sound equipment. It’s a unique experience and is highly recommended.

Wendy’s Secret Garden
Behind Wendy’s Secret Garden is a true to life heartwarming story of love. When artist Brett Whiteley passed away in 1992, his grief stricken widow, Wendy Whiteley channeled her love and emotional tumult into developing an abandoned train yard space into a garden. Situated at the bottom of a foothill where her home in Lavendar Bay is located, the garden has been tended and nurtured by two gardeners and Whiteley herself for the last 20 years. From herbs, native plants and exotic species of greenery the garden has been carefully landscaped with pathways supported by timber balustrades. There are paths and benches to sit on to take in the beauty and cobbled steps that offer spaces for seating as well. The garden also offers breathtaking views of the Sydney harbour and beautifully frames areas of North Sydney and the harbour bridge. Visit this ode to love and bask in the warmth of its founding sentiments for free.
