Things I Forgot by Son Little
He’s recently finished a series of triumphant shows at CMJ that inspired New York Times’ writer Jon Pareles to rave, “His band uses electronics to toss in the odd percussive loop or synthesizer swoop; his guitar playing is laconic but pointed; and his lyrics mingle existential fears with his blandishments… The music had roots, but wasn’t looking back.” And we for one would have to agree.
With his soulful and blues infused sound, Son Little’s music is instantly familiar, yet utterly original.
With a new EP entitled ‘Things I Forgot’ this is the first long release from this exciting new artist. Fusing elements of soul, blues, hip-hop, reggae, the fuzzy guitar strums, Arctic Monkey style beats, and old school backing vocals, it’s like nothing you’ve heard.
One of our favourite tracks from the six-track EP is ‘Cross My Heart’ which starts with a pulsing digital beat, before being joined by a Wild West style stand off guitar riff.
It’s eclectic, fresh, and totally listenable as you certainly won’t need to give it a few goes.
